Methods of (MIDI) control

I’m setting up my controllers for live PA but I’m not completely sure how I’m going to get things set up. I have a keyboard controller, a foot pedal and a drum pad. I think I’m going to mount the drum pad onto the keyboard controller somehow.

I’m still up in the air on how to map my drum pads though. I’ve seen a few posts on drum mappings for things like the Akai MPD16 that have 4×4 layouts, but my Nanopad has a 2×6 layout.

I guess I’ll just have to play with things.

The foot pedal is going to probably trigger things like pad banks and stutter effects. I might try to trigger some one-shot sounds this way, or I might have certain scenes mapped to accentuate other parts I’m playing on the keys.

I think maybe I could do octave shifts or something like that on the pedal. Once I have the Pedal fighter running I could probably relegate the FCB to doing more bank and pad switching and less triggering. I figure the FCB will be a solid piece of my setup even once I have some other foot controllers built.
